Fallon Health Canal Diggers 5K returns to Polar Park on September 10

Worcester, Mass., August 15, 2022—Hundreds of Worcester area runners are expected to come together on Saturday, September 10 to raise funds for local charities and promote awareness of businesses located in the city’s vibrant Canal District. Fallon Health, the presenting sponsor, is pleased to announce that this year’s running of the Fallon Health Canal Diggers 5K and Kids Fun Run will once again start at Polar Park. Polar Park is home to the Worcester Red Sox and the centerpiece of the revitalized Canal District. The entire Kids Fun Run will also take place inside the ballpark.

During opening ceremonies, representatives from Fallon and the Canal Diggers will continue the long-standing tradition of giving back to the community by presenting race proceeds to three organizations who are making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve: Pernet Family Health Service, Notre Dame Health Care, and Meals on Wheels- Elder Services of Worcester Area.

“The Canal Diggers 5K is a fall tradition that Fallon has been proud to lead from the start,” said Richard Burke, President and CEO of Fallon Health. “The event is central to our mission and is one of the ways we thank the Worcester community for supporting us for the last 45 years. As founding partners of the WooSox, we are excited to once again be back at Polar Park and look forward to welcoming everyone at the starting line.”

As a 100% charitable race, it’s a win-win for Worcester.”

Run of show:

  • 9:25 a.m.— pre-race ceremonies at Polar Park, 100 Madison St.
  • 9:45 a.m.— Kids Fun run at Polar Park. The race will take place on the warning track.
  • 10:30 a.m.— 5K starts at Polar Park, 100 Madison Street and finishes at the Worcester Hibernian Cultural Centre, 19 Temple St.
  • Post-race— food, refreshments, and live entertainment from 80’s cover band The Flock will be available near the finish line.

Online registration is open now through noon on September 7. The entrance fee is $30 The Youth 1K registration is $15. There will be no race day registration. For virtual race information, please visit canaldiggers.org.
