Fallon Health announces Sean Murphy as its first Chief Network Strategist

Newly created role aligns with Fallon’s focus on caring for individuals enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid health insurance programs

Worcester, Mass., August 5, 2022—Fallon Health, supporting its strategic growth in government markets, today announced the hiring of Sean Murphy to the newly created role of Chief Network Strategist. The new position reflects Fallon’s unique commitment to Medicare and Medicaid members and advances its goal of expanding equitable access to health care. Murphy has over twenty-five years of experience in the health care industry and a vast knowledge of the Northeast health insurance marketplace, with a particular focus on Massachusetts. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of Managed Care Contracting for Steward Health Care System’s Central and East Regions. Prior to that, he specialized in building Massachusetts health insurance networks on behalf of insurers that include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Point32Health (formerly Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan).

“We are thrilled to welcome Sean to Fallon Health,” said Todd Bailey, Chief Financial Officer for Fallon Health, to whom Murphy will report. “Having worked on both the payer and provider side of network development, he is uniquely qualified to support our efforts to expand access to high-quality health care through innovative contracting. Murphy will oversee Fallon’s provider network development and have responsibility for both establishing new contractual relationships and enhancing existing provider relationships – all in service of expanding health care access and delivering high-quality care and coverage to our members.”

Creation of the role of Chief Network Strategist aligns with and advances Fallon’s decision in March 2021 to become the leader in providing exceptional care and coverage to individuals enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid health insurance programs. Today, members in those programs make up 69 percent of Fallon’s membership, the highest level in the organization’s 45-year history.

“Fallon has succeeded in building a robust network that offers convenient, affordable, high-quality care that meets members where they are in life,” said Murphy. “I am looking forward to building on the trust Fallon has established with its members by growing our network, simplifying the consumer experience and delivering services that Fallon’s members have come to expect.”

Murphy earned his MBA from the Questrom School of Business at Boston University and holds a BA from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont.
